It is a method of irrigation where the pipes and emitters are located below the surface of the ground, usually at a depth of between 10 and 50 cm. This system delivers water and nutrients directly to the root zone of the plants, increasing water efficiency and decreasing water consumption compared to other irrigation methods as there is no evaporation, as well as reducing weed growth in the crop.
